Thursday Night Tying Class

Our tying classes started in 2004 and they have grown considerably. We have had as many as 22 students join us in a class this year. We are tying many different fresh and saltwater patterns each week. Some of the patterns you may find easy and some may be quite challenging.  I think this approach will enhance your tying and help you to move on to become a better tier in less time. There is no need to sign up for these classes, you can just show up and join the group if you are interested in the pattern we are tying on any given week.

The cost of these classes are $10.00 each. What you get for the lesson is a step-by-step instruction sheet for the pattern each week. The pattern being tied has a video camera showing all the details on a large screen TV. I will tie the pattern on the screen at the start of the class. After the instruction pattern is tied we pass out the hooks and materials to the class.

If you are having some difficulty with a technique or handling some of the various materials please ask for our assistance. We have a few experienced tiers to lend some help. Keep in mind that the format of our class may not allow us to spend ‘one on one’ time with you for a whole pattern. I can spend some ‘one on one’ time with you at a private lesson. I can also go over the details of a private lesson with you. It may be a short lesson to help you with a technique, or a whole pattern (which will require more time.)

For complete novice tiers I recommend that you stop by the shop for a ‘start up lesson’ prior to the class to go over the basics. You will enjoy our class much more with a few of the things we can teach you about applying thread to the hook and whip finishing. These techniques are used on all flies and can sometimes be time consuming to learn and, you will shorten your learning curve greatly.

Join us for a fun time and share some fish stories with us.
